Nobbs families bull sale hits $20,000 twice in Moura
It was a family affair for the Central Queensland-based Nobbs families as the Brahman breeders welcomed a sizeable crowd to their 40th annual Moura bull sale on Friday. Grey and Red Brahmans, Charbrays and Brangus bulls boasting exceptional conformation and carcase traits were in hot demand from buyers at the Moura sale yards, with a grey and red Brahman topping at $20,000. Overall, 99 bulls were offered, 89 bulls sold for a 90 per cent clearance, with the sale grossing $614,000. The sale kicked off with a very strong start with lot 1, Yoman 3328/9 grey Brahman bull sire, taking out the first top price of the sale at $20,000. The impressive grey bull was offered by Stewart and Tom Nobbs, Yoman, Moura, and was bought by Lawson Geddes, Couti Outi Brangus, Kunwarara.
The 35-month-old sire-prospect entered the selling ring at 936 kilograms with an big eye muscle area scan of 146 centimetres squared. The grey bull also displayed a softness and smooth coat type with 11 millimetres of fat on the rump and 7 millimetres of fat on the rib area, plus a scrotal measurement of 44 centimetres. Dandarbong Pastoral, Moura, couldn't go past outlaying the equal top price of $20,000 for a stand-out sire in the making. The 32-month-old red Brahman Yoman 39/9 weighed in at 914 kilograms and measured 40 centimetres in the scrotal. Sired by Yoman Select sire and dam, the sire prospect had an eye muscle area of 148 square centimetres, P8 and rib fat of 12mm and 8mm respectively, and an intramuscular fat of 4.4pc. A second-top price of $18,000 was achieved in the Charbray section of the draft. Dandarbong Pastoral, Moura, made the bid to secure the 24-month-old Charbray Cordelia Nash 246, who was offered by Chas Nobbs, Cordelia, Moura. Sired by Cordelia Kingswood (P/S) , the bull weighed in at 726kg, with a scrotal measurement of 35cm, EMA of 140sq cm, IMF of 4.6pc, and P8 and rib fat depths of 13mm and 9mm respectively. The Charbray portion of the sale saw all 22 bulls sell for an average of $7000. Two Brangus bulls from the Lyndhurst stud also went under the hammer, selling for a top of $7000 and average of $6000. McIntyre Cattle Co, Theodore, were once again the top volume buyers, putting together an impressive draft of 16 bulls to average $5813, while Cremorne Cattle Company of Mt Calder, Alpha, purchases 10 bulls to average $5700.
Elders auctioneer Randal Spann said the result was solid in such dry conditions.
"A good clearance and very good average for today's sale, with bulls sold all around the Central Queensland area," Mr Spann said. "Bulls went right up west to Alpha, out to Springsure and with a lot of support from local buyers. "The sale presented a very strong buyer panel once again, with bulls sold west to Alpha, out to Springsure and a lot of support from local buyers. Overall, a pleasing result for the Nobbs families."
