RED BRAHMAN TOPS 30TH MOURA BULL SALE AT $8000
In a promising start to the Brahman sale calendar, Red Brahmans achieved a 100% clearance and 34 out of 35 greys sold at the 30th Annual Moura Bull Sale. Featuring Brahman and Charbray Bulls bred by the well-known Nobbs family, the sale was a great kick off as Brahman breeders across the state prepare for upcoming sales.Eric Nobbs, Lyndhurst, Biloela featured heavily in the success of this years’ sale, selling a 22 month old, polled, Red Brahman to Des and Karen Dahl, Brolga Gully, Baralaba for $8000. “Right or wrong, I wanted this bull,” said Des, “He’s a
poll with a clean sheath and great temperament.” The couple attend the sale annually and will be using their purchase in their commercial herd. Repeat buyers such as the Dahl family were the secret to this years’ success according to Eric Nobbs, who commented, “We’re happy with the sale results. There were no silly prices and the average was solid. The bulk of the buyers were repeat buyers with the odd new buyer.” The family moved their annual sale to an earlier date this year and Eric felt some of the improved results in 2011 could be attributed to the change. Eric averaged $3750 for his Grey Brahmans, $4833 for the Red Brahman lots and $3400 for his Charbray offerings.
Stewart and Stephanie Nobbs, Yoman Brahman Stud, Moura topped the Grey Brahmans catalogue with the sale of Yoman 1764/0 for $7500 to Bill Reid, Pegunny Pastoral, Moura. The 24 month old Brahrock Ken 2651 (AI ET) bull was one of 13 purchases for Pegunny Pastoral and brought Bills’ average to $4192. Stewart averaged $4364 for his Grey Brahmans and $3875 for the Red Brahman component of the sale.
Top Charbray price was $6000 for the registered Cordelia Digger offered by Chas and Judy Nobbs, Corelia, Moura. With 100% clearance for the Charbrays, top price was achieved by Ron and Jenny Byriel, Dandarbong, Bauhinia, the bull was one of five purchases for the Byriel family with an average price of $4800. Chas sold Grey Brahmans and Charbray bulls to average $4250 and $4333 respectively.
Roger and Roslyn Nobbs, Wingara, Moura averaged $3705 for their Charbray lots, $3700 for their Grey Brahmans lots and $3286 for the Reds. Phillip & Stephanie Nobbs, Cordelia P, sold 3 Charbrays to average $3833.
