DUAL TOP PRICE BUYERS FOR NOBBS

​COMMERCIAL and stud buyers lined up to contest for a mix of Brahman, Charbray, Brangus and composite bulls at the 32nd annual Nobbs families, Moura bull sale.
The sale topped twice at $6000, with one buyer focused on seed stock production, and the other a firm commercial breeder.
Grey Brahman bulls lead the sale catalogue and a 34-month-old, 842kg, Garwin lot, with the highest eye muscle area in the sale of 146 sq cm, sold to Theodore commercial producer, John Dickens.
Mr Dickens operates three properties in the Theodore region with a total area of 8094 hectares (20,000 acres) including Lyngarry, Nulambie and Allandale.
His herd consists of about 1400 Brahmans raised on forestry type country.
“Brahmans are the best cattle you can get,” he said.
“They are low maintenance and good doing.”
Mr Dickens paid the average price of $5500 for three Brahmans including two from the Garwin stud and one from Stewart and Tom Nobbs’, Yoman Cattle Company.
Another Theodore local and new Moura bull sale buyer, Alan and Natalie Goodland, Clare Charolais and Charbray stud, secured the equal top price bull, a 898kg, 24-month-old, milk tooth, Marlegoo Blitz son, bred by Phillip and Stephanie Nobbs, Delargum, Moura.
“The Moura bull sale bulls have a heap of muscle and good toplines,” said Mr Goodland, who will run his new bull in a Charbray stud herd of 100 cows.
Clare Grazing also paid $4000 for a two-tooth, Cordelia sire, Cordelia Freeman, offered by Chas and Judy Nobbs.
Three bulls sold for $5500 including another John Dickens purchase from Roger and Roslyn Nobbs, Garwin Stud, and a pair of two-year old Cordelia Charbray bulls that sold to Ron and Jenny Byriel, Dandarbong Pastoral, Bauhinia.
Dandarbong Pastoral paid the average price of $4700 for five bulls.
A total of 34 grey Brahmans averaged $3617.
Red Brahmans averaged $3500 for nine bulls sold.
Most popular on the day, 14 Charbrays averaged $3964.
A small offering of three Brangus and four composite bulls sold to average $2857.
Accepting a volume buyer’s cheque of $1000, Tom and Liz McIntyre, Mt View, Theodore, purchased 12 Brahman lots and six Charbrays to average $3055.
Rob and Annie Donoghue, Barranga, Bauhinia, paid the average price of $3300 for 10 bulls.
Bill Reid, Pegunny Pastoral, Moura, purchased five bulls for the average price of $4000.
