NOBBS STUD BULL SALE HITS $24,000 AT MOURA

Despite dry weather conditions prevailing across the region the Nobbs Moura bull sale still achieved a clearance rate of 83 per cent on Friday.
The sale ring stands were full of potential bull buyers with Stewart and Stephanie Nobbs’ lot 30, Yoman 194/6 grey Brahman bull, taking out top price of the sale at $24,000.
The top priced bull sold to first-time sale buyer, Hardy and Amanda Woodard, Knockbreak Partnership, Eidsvold. 
Yoman 194/6 grey Brahman bull stepped into the sale ring at 898 kilograms at 32-months-old with a solid eye muscle area of 136 centimetres squared. The bull recorded 12 millimetres of fat on the rump and 6 millimetres of fat on the rib area, plus a scrotal measurement of 36 centimetres. 
The Woodard family had traveled to the Nobbs families Moura bull sale specifically to purchase the Yoman bull. 
The sire will now be used in the Knockbreak’s Brangus cattle operate and will initially be used over 50 selected Brangus/Angus cows to produce bulls and quality future breeders for their livestock business.   
“A number of Brangus cattle breeders have noticed the quality of this Yoman grey Brahman bull and we are very happy to secure him as part of our commercial and stud Brangus cattle operation,” Mr Woodard said. 
One of the main attractions for the Woodard family to the Yoman 194/6 grey Brahman sire was the dark colour of his slick coat, which is a trait many Brangus breeders like to chase according to Mr Woodard. 
“We rely heavily on the cattle with good carcase traits in our forest type country,” he said. 
“When we see a bull with the right balance of good traits these days, we try to always buy them because you don’t see many bulls like this for our type of environment.
“We don’t need large framed bulls, we need moderate framed cattle with a good balance of desirable carcase traits.”
Tom Nobbs said the families were mostly pleased with the sale results given the dry weather condition currently prevailing across the region. 
Overall, the Nobbs families bull sale at Moura Saleyards averaged $5609 with an 83 per cent clearance rate for 66 bulls sold out of the 80 head offered during the sale. The sale grossed $368,000 in total. 
Volume buyer of the sale was Cremore Cattle Company, Alpha who purchased 13 bulls during the sale including Roger and Roslyn Nobbs’ grey Brahman Garwin 21 bull for $5500.  
Second top volume buyer of the sale was Cameron McIntyre, McIntyre Pastoral who bought nine bulls.  
Second top priced bull of the sale was lot 44, Garwin 46 grey Brahman bull, who sold to the Vella family, Bald Hills, Marlborough, for $16,500.
The Garwin bull was sired by FBC Griffin and weighed 854 kilograms at 30-months-old with an eye muscle area of 132 centimetres squared. The bull recorded 10 millimetres of fat on the rump and 6 millimetres of fat on the rib area, plus a scrotal measurement of 39 centimetres. 
Chas and Judy Nobbs, Cordelia Charbray Stud, sold lot 80, Cordelia 236 bull, for $11,500 to the Melville family, Biloela. 
Phillip and Stephanie Nobbs’ lot 89, Cordelia P 29 bull, sold for $10,000 to Rosewood Charbray Stud, Morinish.
