NOBBS FAMILIES MOURA BULL SALE SEES STRONG SUPPORT FOR CHARBRAY SIRES
The annual Nobbs Families Moura Bull Sale saw strong support from return buyers invested in the genetic depth of the Nobbs' cattle.
The Lyndhurst, Cordelia, Garwin, Cordelia P and Yoman studs presented 80 bulls consisting of grey Brahmans, ted Brahmans, Charbrays, Brangus and Ultrablacks.
Overall, 64 bulls sold to average $7484, drawing a total sale gross of $479,000 and clearance of 80 per cent, slightly back on the 2023 sale's 84pc clearance, but in line with last year's average of $7476.
A breakdown of the sale saw grey Brahman bulls sell to a top of $10,000, red Brahman bulls achieved a full clearance with a top of $11,000 twice, and the Brangus and Ultrablacks averaged $6375 with a top of $9000.
Charbrays were the flavour of the day, averaging $9631 with lot 69, Cordelia 22/3 selling for a standout price of $24,000 to the Connolly family at Theodore.
Whilst the successful purchaser wasn't initially shopping for a Charbray bull, Cec Connolly said there was a lot to admire about the sale topper.
"We were chasing Brahman bulls, but it was the bone, frame and softness of the Charbray bull that made us have a bid on him," Mr Connolly said.
With impressive scans of 160 square centimetres in the EMA, 5.1pc in the IMF, P8 and rib fat measurements of twelve and seven millimetres respectively, and a weight recording of 916 kilograms, there were numerous bidders hunting the 24-month-old bull from the stands.
Bulk buyers were in flying form with return clients boosting the sale's clearance rate.
Successful purchases found new homes with buyers near Springsure, Rolleston, Taroom, Rockhampton, and Theodore.
McIntyre Cattle Company from Theodore were the bulk buyers of the day, putting together a line of nine bulls including six grey Brahmans, two red Brahmans and one Charbray sire for use in their commercial herd's upcoming joining season.
Cameron McIntyre has been a supporter of the Moura Bull Sale since its inception and said that he usually sticks to purebreds, but ventured into buying a Charbray bull because of the quality presented by the Nobbs families.
"The Nobbs families are good cattlemen," Mr McIntyre said.
"They've got the depth of genetics and the quality of cattle to suit which is what keeps us coming back for more each year."
The Bloxsom family from Planet Downs near Rolleston also purchased nine bulls on the day and were amongst repeat buyers in the crowd.
